Our Schools

CMS Uniform Policy

The Uniform for Coastal Middle School is as follows: 

Shirts: Solid white or solid navy blue polo or oxford style collared tops may be worn. No emblems or logos except for the Coastal Middle School logo are acceptable. All undershirts, or any attire worn under the uniform top, must be solid white. Solid white or solid navy turtle neck shirts may be worn in winter months. Tops may not be tight or revealing.  Shirts must be tucked in at all times. NEW - Students may purchase a navy or Coastal Blue Spirit Wear shirt from our athletics department and wear untucked any day with uniform bottoms.  CMS spirit wear shirts may only be worn with blue jeans on designated Spirit Wear days. 

Pants/Shorts: Solid navy or khaki bottoms that fit as a pair of slacks may be worn.  Bottoms must be made of standard uniform material – no denim, spandex, or corduroy. No cargo style pants, athletic types of pants, pants with elastic at ankles, or pants with side pockets may be worn. Pants must be worn at the natural waistline but may not fit tightly. Bottoms must have a finished hem and be no shorter than 3 inches above the student’s knee. 

 Belts: Black or brown, always properly fastened around the natural waist, and worn inside the belt loops.  Belts must have a standard buckle. 

Skirts and Jumpers: Solid navy, solid khaki, or “classic navy plaid” skirts or jumpers with a finished hem may be worn. Skirts must be worn with collared uniform shirts and may be no more than 3 inches above the student’s knee. Plaid skirts (Coastal blue/gold) may also be worn.  Be sure these are the correct pattern and color before purchasing.  

Shoes: Shoes must have enclosed toes and heels. No backless shoes or crocs are permitted. Athletic shoes must be properly tied at all times.   

Socks, Tights, and Leggings: Solid white, solid black, or solid navy blue socks, tights, and leggings may be worn. 

Outerwear: All jackets, sweaters, vests, and other types of outerwear worn over the uniform must be solid navy, gray, coastal blue, or white  to be worn inside the building. Outerwear that does not fall into these categories should be taken off upon entry into the building and placed in a student's bookbag. Students wearing items that are not consistent with dress code expectations may have the items confiscated by school staff, and returned at the end of the day on the first offense.  On the second offense, parents will be required to pick up the items.  On the third offense, the item(s) will held in the front office and not returned until the end of the semester. Items that are unclaimed will be donated.  Hoodies that do not fully unzip are not permitted. Students may wear an official CMS 1/4 zip in the front. These can be purchased through our athletics department.  

Joggers: Joggers and Athletic Shorts can only be worn on Spirit Days!  If a student has PE, he/she can wear the athletic shorts or joggers in gym class if not a Spirit Day.
